Lurking in the dark corners of your organization are Shadow IT systems, every technology department’s unavoidable nightmare. Shadow IT is the use of information technology systems, devices, software, applications, and services without the organization’s approval or knowledge.

Shadow IT happens innocently – someone has an application they like from a previous job or a tool they prefer over the one the IT department uses—but it comes with risks. People gain access to data they shouldn’t have, or share it inappropriately. When an employee leaves, you lose access to important data. Shadow IT creates data silos. The good news is there are ways to mitigate these and other risks.
